THREAD-JACKING: Y, but check first?
FOURTH WALLING / CANON PUNCTURE: N
BACKTAGGING: Y
AVOIDED TOPICS: As long as it's not graphic or detailed I'm cool with most things. Heads up for suicide / drug overdose is appreciated.
PREFERRED GENDER PRONOUN: he/him
IC CHARACTERISTICS
CURRENT CANON POINT: pre-series; the night before his father's death
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Lithe, broad in the shoulders and through his arms, slightly more trim in the waist, a little gangly, like he's not quite done growing yet. He's just under six feet, with blue eyes and dark curls down to his jaw. I use Timothee Chalamet because he's got the hair, but Ronan's got more shoulders.
DEMEANOR: Ronan still seems evocative of ravens, but he's more wild than dangerous at this age. His smiles are warm and easy; but he can be intense once you catch his attention. He has trouble staying still without an incentive, and there's almost always a bit of a touch of wonder to him. There's an easy confidence to him, a Ronan isn't cruel, but he can be occasionally sharp, depending on his moods. He has that sense of a boy that doesn't really grasp the darkness of the world just yet, of someone that's been protected. Likes adrenaline and things that make his heart race.
ABILITIES: So, Ronan is a Dreamer. In essence, this means that he can bring things with him back from his dreams. They are permanent and they work however he thinks they should. At current, he's still learning how to harness this. The scope of what he's capable of creating / bringing back with him at this point in his canon has included: flaming swords, his younger brother, acid butterflies, a semi-sentient magical forest, the occasional nightmare, and so on. However, there is a little blonde girl with goat legs in his dreams. He calls her Orphan Girl and she likes fried chicken. Needless to say, he will not be dreaming any people into the real world, but may make peoples' lives difficult as he tries to get this under control. In the more recent books this has been conceptually connected to changing the nature of reality.
MEDICAL INFORMATION: I don't think there's anything relevant. He is half-dream though, if anyone wants to or would notice that.
OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS: Nothing out of the usual that I can think of; probably a bit sensitive to shittalking his parents, but not to the extent he is later. Has not worked his way through his sexuality, so while not overtly sensitive to such subjects, might get under his skin more than he lets on.
OTHER: CARS
IC PERMISSIONS
MENTAL: Maybe. Hit me up to talk specifics, more on this below.
MIMICRY: I think it'd depend on the situation and how it was used. Chat me up.
VIOLENCE: Y / Ronan grew up leaning to fight from his father, knows Boxing, fights with his older brother-- not a match for anyone with superpowers, but certainly down to spar. Not shy about throwing a punch if you get him mad enough.
MAGIC: Conceptually yes, but it depends on the intended effects. Let's talk, some guidelines below for those that want them.
DEBATE: Y
OTHER / NOTES:
So let's talk about psychics and other such abilities. They exist in his canon! And later, he actually interacts with them. So these are some thoughts if you want a reference point before talking out specific ideas. Theses are all from later canon, so there is potential for Ronan to be not as good with defenses, depending on what we want to achieve.
In general, Ronan is said to be very 'loud' to anyone with perception type abilities. Not so much in a sense of broadcasting specific things, but he takes up a lot of psychic space, colors the energy around him, that sort of thing. He feels a bit like being close to a wildfire. In this vein, I generally run with the idea that anything aimed at empathy / emotion detection is easier to use on him than most people.
There is a woman with psychometry who touches him and is able to pull up that "a secret killed your father and you know what it was". He doesn't take it well, needless to say. But in this vein, I'm typically more interested in keeping anything aimed at deducing specific information a little bit vague. But not always! If there's something specific you think would be fun to have your character find out, I'm typically down to work something out. Further in this vein, for characters that are able to read him in specific, he feels very strange. What are you? is a common question, and not always a kind one. The closest explanation is that he feels sort of like constant creation. One of the psychics likens it to being sort of akin to a woman that was pregnant with quintuplets "except far more" when trying to explain it.
And then there's scrying. This seems to be able to be used in two ways: one, to stabilize his dreams in times / situations of crisis, and two, to contact him in his dreams, which can range from impressions to more robust communication. But it is worth noting that someone scrying seems to observe more than participate; dreams and dreamers seem to be the only ones that exist in each others' dreams in the same way. We also only see this done with Ronan's consent, and then later he's shown to be able to specifically keep someone out. When keeping someone from his dreams, he's able to know who it is - but in that instance it's also someone he already knows, so unsure if that's generally applicable.
Also, his dreams are connected to a semi-sentient magical dream forest and has a feral child (Orphan Girl) that exists in his dreams specifically as a psychopomp to keep him safe, etc. So there's also potential for attempts to poke at him to get really weird if you're into that sort of thing. And weird shit can still happen even if this occurs while he's awake.
For the canon familiar, I'm running with him being connected to Lindenmere here, rather than Cabeswater, since the later is bound to a physical location, and several acres of Virginia forest obviously did not get dragged along to Temba. And we know that the dream forests are not particularly concerned with the linear progression of time, and so: Lindenmere. It is these dream-forests where Ronan seems to be most comfortable dreaming- he can dream without them, but he implies this to be harder and more difficult.
If he were to be able to manifest Lindenmere physically, as he did with Cabeswater, it basically becomes a place where dream and intention become reality.
